Finding Wonder In The Highly Challenged Life
Introduction
Welcome to exploring a unique form of art in the format of quilts and their stories, as a reflective journey focused on inner life dealing with overwhelming adversity. While I’ve made over 150 quilt art pieces, I’ve placed the preponderance of my work in two photobooks with narrative, the first of which is entitled: The Places We Find Ourselves: Quilt Art for Facing Adversity, to be available for sale summer 2026. The other photobook with narrative is entitled: Canyonlands of the Soul: Companioning the Embattled Soul, which will become available summer 2027.

“Open Yourself To What’s Needing To Emerge From Within,” This quilt came out of the idea that we need to make space for our inner knowing so it can show up where we can see it.
Places of Healing​

Overwhelming trouble can crack us open
Breaking down our fragile inner walls
Revealing our soul’s foundations
Onto which our lives need to be rebuilt.
Gifted by those who’ve crawled through mud,
The ones who’ve experienced great suffering,
We can learn from their stories and imagery
That orient us to the big matters of life.
Looking deeply at what lies within us,
We find where we really are,
And with the discomfort that attends change,
We can then know where we need to go.
These are the places we find ourselves
Sometimes hanging by a thread
Sometimes by stepping up,
But every once in a while, we see our wholeness,
Connecting the dots that are born of adversity.
